Illuminated or Non-Illuminated Channel Letter Signs

Channel Letters are used for commercial buildings, indoor malls, and shopping centers to display your company name and brand. There are several types of channel letters and combinations in this type. They can be installed individually to the building fascia or mounted on a raceway. Since they were illuminated with neon for many many years they used to be called neon channel letters, nowadays they also can be illuminated with LED. This type of sign can be considered an outdoor sign or an indoor sign depending on the location.

1. Standard Channel Letter

Standard Channel Letter is also known as front channel letter or Front Lit Channel Letter. All the lighted components of this type of letter reside inside each letter and light shows through the front of the letter. The face is fabricated with translucent acrylic.

2. Reverse Channel Letter

Reverse Channel Letter is also known as Reverse Lit Channel Letter. This type is manufactured with the lighted component inside the letter facing the back of the letter. The letter faces are stainless steel and have no light through the front. Installation of this type has to be with space in between the letter and the wall so light reflects on the building wall or a backplate.

3. Open Face Channel Letter

Open face channel letter, construction of this letter is the same as the standard channel letter type. The light component is neon and letters can be open with no face or have a clear acrylic cover face to protect the electrical components from the weather conditions (rain, hail, or wind). Not having a clear acrylic face most of the time the sign will require a lot of maintenance to keep it clean. Some neon tubing breakage can occur at any time.

4. Non- Illuminated Channel Letter

Non- illuminated channel letter is the same as the standard letter but has no lighted components inside the letter. Fabricated non- illuminated metal letters are stainless steel manufactured along with other materials for different optional finishes.

5. Reverse and Front Illuminated Channel Letter

Reverse and Front Illuminated Channel Letter is built with double width, it holds lighted components in the front of the letter and also another set of lighted elements for illumination to the back of the letter. This type looks very rich and elegant. In this example, you can see the sign illuminated in yellow from the front and white reflecting on the back of the letters.

Channel Letter Signs are built to represent a logo or design. In this case, we call these types of signs channel cabinet signs.

We design and fabricate your custom channel letter sign. Give us a call and talk to us about your ideas for your business illuminated sign illuminated with either neon or LED. Visit our Contact Us page for our contact information.

What Are Pan Channel Letters?

Channel letters, also known as pan channel letters, are custom-made plastic or metal letters used in outdoor business signage normally displayed on commercial buildings.

Pan channel letters are a specific type of sign letter that consists of a plastic or metal pan enclosure fabricated in the shape of a letter. The pan enclosure is used to house the lighting and electrical components of the letter and can be mounted directly to the fascia of the building. The face, which is made out of plastic, is attached to the metal pan to seal it off from pests and harsh weather. The face of the letter is usually translucent colored (can be made in any color), allowing the sign to be brightly illuminated and be seen from far distances during the night or day.

Get Better Business Exterior Building Signs Guide

Want to attract more customers to your business? Then make sure people can easily find out who you are, where you’re located, and what you can offer them. If your business doesn’t have the right exterior building signs to capture people’s attention, you’re losing out on potential sales every single day.

Unique building signage makes people take notice and delivers a brand message that’s hard to ignore. Did you know that using professional signs to represent your business can help attract up to 50% of your customers? When the right outdoor building signage becomes a part of your advertising strategy, not only will you notice a higher sales volume, but you’ll be setting your business up for increased visibility, stronger brand awareness, and a better reputation.

Better Building Signage That Supports Your Success

If you want your business to stand out, you can’t default to any old type of signage. Outdoor building signage that gets results needs to be strategic, look professional and adequately represent your brand.

Not sure where to start? Use the 4 tips shared below to help create the perfect signage for the exterior of your business.

1. Avoid overcrowding.

While we know there’s a lot you may want to say to potential customers, crowded exterior building signs will only end up being hard to read. When signage looks too complicated, you’ll alienate customers, and they’ll end up taking away no information at all.

2. Placement matters.

Even well-designed building signage won’t create positive momentum if they’re placed where no one can see them. Exterior signage needs to be visible from multiple directions, taking into account distance from roadways and sidewalks. Even a brightly lit illuminated sign won’t matter much if it’s installed too low to be seen.

3. Prioritize readability.

Even if you have a specific design in mind, make sure you pay close attention to the font type and colors you choose. Specifically, the font size has to be large enough for people to read from a distance, and the colors need to provide contrast so that the logo or business name can be easily deciphered.

4. Integrate your brand.

With so many different exterior building sign options, take the time to choose something that reflects your brand and the products and services you provide. Working with an experienced sign company is the best way to ensure you get the perfect sign to help you build a successful business.

Illuminated & Non-Illuminated Channel Letter Signs

If you’ve ever driven past a strip mall at night, then you’re probably familiar with the effectiveness of illuminated & non-illuminated channel letter signs. This type of signage is the ultimate storefront display. Highly effective during the day, and especially at night, illuminated channel letters are the number one choice for retail centers in Orange County and across the Southland. Channel letters can also be made without lighting, referred to as a non-lit channel or fabricated letters.

This type of signage is often found in commercial properties when lighting is not as important as in a retail environment. Non-lit channel letters are sleek, classy, durable, and project an image of substance and quality.

Face Lit Letter

The most common type of illuminated channel letter is the front lit letter. These are individual letters that have colored acrylic faces illuminated with either LED or neon and are housed in an aluminum letter or frame. The light source shines out through the face of the letter (acrylic) and thus offers a bold, vibrant treatment for your company name, both during the day and particularly at night.

Reverse-Lit Channel Letter

If you are looking for a more subtle, classy feel for your illuminated signage, then look no further than the reverse (halo-lit) channel letter. These letters are called halo-lit because the light source (LED or neon) shines out from the back of the letter (not through the front) and creates a “halo” effect around the letters. The entire letter is made of solid aluminum and the back is left open, thereby exposing the light source.

The letters are offset mounted, usually 1″ away from the wall surface such that the lighting is allowed to shine through the back with a halo effect on the wall surface. By day, the signage can easily be seen and by night, the signage comes to life.

Open Face Channel Letters

Open face channel letters are designed with the face open exposing the neon illumination. You can also use a clear acrylic face as an option. These letters are appealing because they create a vintage or handmade look.

If you are looking to change up your signage and portray an image different than the standard type of illuminated channel letter, you might consider the open face channel letter. Open face channel letters aren’t really open at all. These letters are manufactured much like the standard channel letter, almost always with neon, but utilize clear acrylic faces to expose the raw neon of the sign.

At night you can see the neon tubing (light source) inset within the aluminum letter. The neon comes in a variety of colors and the interior of the letters can be painted any color to give your signage a uniquely uncommon look.

Front Lit and Backlit Channel Letters

If you like to mix and match a bit, you might want to consider a front-lit / back-lit letter. This type of signage combines the standard front lit channel letter with a halo-lit letter. The marriage of these two treatments allows for illumination through both the front of the face of the letter and also out the back of the letter. Thus at night, you can see both a crisply lit face, as well as a soft halo effect.

Illumination Not Necessary

In many cases, illuminated letters are not necessary given where you are located and the type of business you are in. Retail yes, commercial enterprises, often not. If visibility is not essential at night, the non-illuminated or fabricated letter is a terrific option for your signage. Essentially made the same as a halo-lit channel letter, these letters are constructed without the need for a light source. The letters are durable, can be produced with a variety of finishes, depths, and colors, and offers almost unlimited design potential.

4 Types Of Channel Letters To Consider For Your Storefront Sign

Every company has a giant sign on the outside of their building displaying their brand name or logo, right? In this industry, that specific signage is better known as Channel Letters, Channel Logos, or Dimensional Signage. Want to learn more? Keep reading.

Visible by day, luminous at night, channel letters provide great depth and precision to your company’s sign.

Channel letters are also known as “internally illuminated letters”. This description says it all in that each letter is lit from the inside with light shining through the plastic sign face or out the back of the letter (called a halo-lit, or reverse channel letter). Channel letters are commonly illuminated with LED lighting (very efficient) or neon tubing. They can be fabricated into any font or shape.

Channel letters may be installed directly to the building facia (each letter mounted individually) or on a raceway. A raceway is a metal box or panel that runs the length of the channel letter sign. The raceway is then mounted directly to the building facia. Your type of installation may be determined by the city ordinance or building owner’s sign criteria. Our channel letters are UL Listed and manufactured to the strictest standards, and meet all the necessary local electrical and building codes.

An Introduction to Channel Letters

Thinking about a new sign for your storefront or commercial space? Not sure of your options or even the correct terminology? Then this is the blog for you.

One of the first things you should know is the term channel letters. Channel letters, or pan channel letters, are essentially large individual letters that are commonly used as exterior signage for businesses and retail centers.

There are four basic types of channel letters you need to know as a business owner or decision-maker, and that the key differentiator among each one is in how it’s illuminated. Another important factor to be considered is landlord criteria and local zoning regulations pertaining to signs as per size, projection, and illumination. Let’s dissect the specifics.

1. Standard Front-Lit Channel Letter

The most common type of channel letter is the front-lit or standard channel letter. This letter is aluminum on the back and sides. The sides of a channel letter are also known as “returns.” The standard front-lit channel letter is illuminated internally with either LEDs or neon lights, lighting the “face” of each letter. The trim caps screwed to hold on the sign face can be made out of plastic or aluminum, while the sign face itself is constructed out of one of two types of plastic: polycarbonate or acrylic. Acrylic is shinier while polycarbonate is stronger.

Usually, the color elements of the logo are done with cut-out translucent vinyl or, if the color of the face is solid, the acrylic itself can be in its specific color, as long as the color matches the standard colors available. Because of the materials used, standard front-lit channel letters are highly customizable.

Trimmed or Trimless? Test Your Knowledge On Channel Letters!

This type of signage comes with numerous detail and a lot of behind-the-scenes work! Here, you will find some knowledge and examples of the differences between trimmed and trimless channel letters.

How can you determine if a channel letter is trimmed or trimless? Take a look at the picture of the “s” below. You’ll notice this “s” has a white edge around the acrylic panel. That white edge is known as a trim cap. In summary, a trimmed channel letter will have a trim cap edge, while a trimless channel letter will not!

Trim Cap Channel Letters

Trim Cap Channel Letters

Below is a visual representation of a trimless channel letter. The two types are very similar, but there will be no trim cap implemented on a trimless design. The “s” displays more of a smooth, sharp cut and align to the edge of the acrylic panel.

Trimless Channel Letters Wholesale Sign Manufacturing

Trimless Channel Letters

Trimless edge channel letters are made without trim cap and the result is a modern uniform shape with sharp edges. The current trends in channel letter fabrication especially in architectural applications, malls, and airports, are pushing rapidly towards trimless or borderless letter faces that are illuminated, have a low profile, and are brilliantly lit. Traditional fabrication methods don’t meet this need but it is just where we excel.

Ready to update your signage from one type of channel letter to the other? Looking to add some dimension and flair to your visual branding? Set up a free consultation with an IDS representative by sending an email to cassie@isledsign.com

2. Halo-Lit Letter

Halo-lit letters are also referred to as reverse channel-lit letters. They consist of aluminum faces and returns, which are lifted off the wall or raceway. This allows the neons or LED lights inside them to shine out the sides and cast a glow around each letter, and thus creating a halo effect. Standard channel letters, on the other hand, solely light the face of each letter. Halo-lit letters are often used for sign projects that require a unique, classy, or distinguished look or brand image.

3. Front/Back-Lit Channel Letters

Want to get really fancy? Maybe you’re considering a sign with yellow illuminated faces and a blue halo effect? That’s where a front/back-lit channel letter shines. (Yes, pun intended.) This type of channel letter combines the standard front-lit letter with the halo-lit letter. The sides of the letter are aluminum, the faces are polycarbonate, and the back of the sign is open to reflect the LED or neon illumination off of the wall.

4. Open Face Lit Channel Letter

The back and sides of the open-lit channel letter are both aluminum, just like the standard front-lit channel letter; however, in this scenario, the sign is usually lit with neon lights rather than LEDs. The only other major deviation from the standard front-lit channel letter here is that the sign face is either clear or has no sign face at all so that the internally exposed neon can be viewed.

Illumination Options for Channel Letter Signs

Channel letters come with multiple illumination options. Energy-efficient LED bulbs are used to illuminate the letters and emphasize your unique logo or company name. Every part of our signs can be fully customized according to your style and requirements.

Channel Letters With Face Illumination

Also called front-lit channel letters, this type of signage has a Lexan face to allow light to transmit forth. The sides and back of the sign are made of durable aluminum for durability and the desired lighting effects. Face-lit channel letters are widely used both indoors and outdoors. They ensure long-distance visibility for your company logo and name by day and night.

Channel Letters With Side Illumination

Edge-lit channel letters are another widely used type of illuminated signage. LED channel letters with translucent Lexan sides create a halo effect around the letters. Fittingly, they’re also called halo-lit channel letters. Half side-lit letters are another stylistic option you can consider when choosing your sign. Only half of the sides are illuminated in this design, giving them a chic veneer.

Back Illumination

Back-lit or reverse channel letters have a translucent back to allow light transmission while other parts are metallic and thus obscured. The opposite of front-lit channel letters, this type of custom channel letter signs are mounted away from the wall to create a lighted background, giving the letters a lustrous appearance.

Dual Illumination

Back and front illumination doubles signage visibility. As the name implies, in the case of dual illumination, only the sides/returns of channel letter signs are made of aluminum while the face and back are made of translucent Lexan for the lighting effect. Back and front-lit channel letters will enhance the visibility of your logo or company name.

Open Face Channel Letters

There are two options for open-face custom channel letters. The face is either not covered at all or has a clear lexan surface to allow the light bulbs or strips to be visible on the inside. A widely used type of custom channel letter sign with an open face is the cinema-style marquee letters. Neon lights can also be used for illuminating this type of sign.

Channel Letters Applications

Custom channel letters are commonly used as an exterior branding medium. They’re also popular for indoor applications where they create a unique and brilliant glow. Custom channel letters are used for an array of purposes as they are flexible in design, size, and illumination.

Indoor Channel Letters

When used indoors, custom channel letters add a professional touch to your brand. If you want to showcase your brand name or logo indoors, channel letter signs are a radiant solution. Whether illuminated or not, they can be integrated with all types of interior styles.

How Do I Choose Which Type of Channel Letter?

Channel letters or pan channel letters are large individual letters. They are commonly used as exterior signage on businesses, churches, and shopping centers. There are three basic types of channel letters with a fourth type a combination of two types. The major point of differentiation between types of channel letters is in how they are illuminated.

Channel letters are aluminum, 304# Mirror SS, Galvanized sheet, or plastic “cans” or “pans” shaped into letterforms. The term “return” refers to the sides of the can and “face” means the surface seen by the viewer. Channel letters are mounted either individually on the wall or are mounted to a “raceway” which is mounted to the wall.

Open-face channel letters used to be very common. They are quite simply an aluminum can be shaped like a letter with the open side of the can the face of the sign with neon tubing exposed. However, sign ordinances are moving towards controlling “light pollution” by requiring a more diffused type of illumination so new open-face channel letters are becoming less common.

Internally lit channel letters are sometimes called front lit channel letters. The cans have the open side facing the viewer as does the open-face channel letter but the face has a colored acrylic face so none of the electrical workings show. The lighting inside the can is diffused and lights up the face of each letter evenly.

Reverse lit channel letters, reverse pan channel letters, backlit and halo-lit channel letters are all the same thing. The “reverse pan” refers to the fact that the open side of the can face the wall. The viewer sees a solid face which can be any color. Reverse channels can be used without any illumination. Reverse lit, backlit, and halo lit refer to the illumination coming from behind the letter rather than from the face of the letter. The channel letters are mounted off the wall with studs or a raceway so the lights inside can cast a glow around each letter from the back.

Front/backlit channel letters combine internally lit with backlit illumination. They create a very striking illuminated sign.

It will help to drive around at night and look at the different types of channel letters. Seeing pictures online is helpful but not as good as seeing illuminated signs in real life. Consider whether or not you need an illuminated sign. A restaurant or bar might go for the extra expense of a front/lit sign because much of their business is done during dark hours. A retail store that may only need a few hours of illumination in the winter would go with something simpler. A manufacturer who is not drawing in passersby may opt for no illumination.

Whatever style works best for your business you’ll need a professional to design, build and install channel letters. Depending on local sign codes, the letters may require UL Listing and, more than likely a licensed contractor to install them. Be wary of low-ball estimates for the manufacture or installation of channel letters.

Plastic PVC letters for dimensional letters and signs are much like acrylic flat cut plastic letters because they are lightweight, inexpensive, and can be used indoors or outdoors. PVC lettering can be used instead of acrylic lettering because plastic PVC letters can achieve greater depth (thickness) than traditional flat-cut acrylic (plastic) lettering.

PVC letters are made of solid polyvinyl chloride material with smooth edges. All PVC letters are cut from standard white material and can then be used as-is or custom colors to use any PMS color standard colors such as red, black, yellow, blue, etc. Larger-sized PVC letters can also have custom faces for better printing. Similar to special materials such as metal lettering, wood laminate, or smooth acrylic letters.

In addition to custom colors, PVC letters can be made in a variety of fonts, depths, and heights. PVC letter fonts come in a variety of standard serif and sans-serif options, and since plastic lettering is custom cut, you can use your own artwork files to create custom fonts to mimic brand logo fonts. PVC letters range from 3″ to 46″ in height and 1/8″ to 1″ in depth. 8 inches to 1 inch.

PVC plastic letters are an affordable decorative lettering option for indoor and outdoor buildings used for branding, decorating, or marking business offices, lobbies, conference rooms, etc. The lightweight of this size lettering allows for easy do-it-yourself wall mounting with a variety of options ranging from adhesive-backed tape (for smaller plastic letters) to stud and pad-mounted plastic letters (for larger sizes) lettering. Call us today to inquire about your options and pricing for PVC plastic letters to fit your size letter needs.

Similar to acrylic, painted dimensional  PVC Sign Letters are a very common form of 3D Signage Letters. Available in different thicknesses, ranging from 1/8” thick up to 1” thick. Expanded PVC sign letters and numbers are popular for inexpensive 3D Signs for Businesses. It is popular for both Custom Interior Wall Signs and temporary outdoor installations that cheap sign letters.

PVC, the third most popular plastic material, is a good choice for both interior, and Exterior Building Signs and numbers. The material is pre-finished, is durable, and has a nice enough look to be viewed up close, and is durable enough to be used on exterior signs. Additionally, PVC is easily painted so color options are endless. It is CNC cut so they can be manufactured with precision in any of our fonts, as well as any custom logos, or fonts that you are incorporating in your product branding.

These PVC Letters Wholesale come in white colors. If you would like to paint them, we recommend sanding them with 220 sandpaper before finishing them.  When painted, PVC letters and logos have a finished, professional look. The colors can be chosen from PMS color, also can choose the gloss surface or matte surface effect.

As for installation, we recommend using double-sided mounting tape to secure lightweight letters to the surface, thicker letters can be mounted with studs. Studs are metal prongs that stick out of the back of the letter. A paper mounting template helps with spacing and alignment.

Reverse Channel Letters

Reverse Lit Channel Letters

Reverse Lit Channel Letters

This radiant backlit signage creates a halo effect behind each letter. We carefully paint the inside of your channel letters with gloss white to amplify the effect of LED lighting. The business can convey a brand promise to a customer with proper signage or even be strategically placed to encourage impulse buys for customers.

Reverse channel letters are the way to go when your clients interest in the distinctive approach Letter Signage program. We also call them “Backlit Channel Letter Signs” or “Halo Illuminated Letters“.

The material of reverse channel letters is using stainless steel or galvanized sheets. People install the letters away from the wall in order to create a halo behind the letters. Another advantage worth being mentioned at this stage is the fact that a clear acrylic sheet of the back enables those using them to prevent animals from making nests inside it.

Furthermore, IS LED SIGN can fabricate Reverse Channel Letter Signs according to clients’ specifications. In the case of Outdoor Channel Letters, we only use the highest quality materials together with good components in order to produce the best possible signs according to clients’ preferences, because this is the main aim of everything specialists do.

It can be used to help customers navigate an unfamiliar location with ease. The customer can learn about the brand with the signage. The signage conveys messaging and subtle signals for a brand.

Externally, impactful signage may attract local customers and people from other areas. A newly opened business may not have the brand recognition that more established companies in an area would. The signage could really be instrumental in helping a customer identify a location.

Light The Way | Illuminated VS. Non-Illuminated Signage

Illuminated signage impacts a business in many ways. Your brand’s marketing efforts and your bottom line are directly impacted by the ability to permit illuminated signage, and the restrictions municipalities impose on illuminated signage often trend upward. Is non-illuminated signage a feasible solution, or just the only option available?

Marketing Functions of On-Premise Signs

First and foremost, what are the real benefits of on-premise signage? Listed are the four key marketing functions of on-premise signs as outlined in On-Premise Signs as Storefront Marketing Devices and Systems by Taylor, Claus, and Claus (2005).

  • Communicating the business’ location;
  • Reinforcing advertisements and other promotional techniques as a part of integrated marketing communications;
  • Branding the location;
  • Enhancing the image of the store or business.

Examining the four key functions brings us to the conclusion that illuminated and non-illuminated signs can perform all four functions. While both illuminated and non-illuminated signs fit the criteria. Illumination reinforces the sign’s ability to perform its intended marketing functions. In turn, a properly lit sign can increase your company’s competitive advantage.

Per an academic study completed by Taylor, Sarkees, and Bang (2012). 85% of a representative U.S. sample of on-premise sign users would lose sales if they did not have an on-premise sign. Additionally, the average reported loss across the entire sample was 34.5%. (Journal of Public Policy & Marketing; Fall2012, Vol. 31 Issue 2)

A Correlation between Illumination and Profit Margin

To determine the correlation between illuminated signage and an increase in sales volume we will use the survey and sampling plan developed by Dr. Charles R. Taylor of Villanova University.

The issues regarding the illumination of on-premise signs show that the percentages of businesses facing lighting restrictions are as follows:

  • Allowable hours of illumination 3%
  • Sign Brightness 8%
  • Type of illumination 24%

“Results indicate that lighted on-premise signs substantially impact the bottom line on many businesses. A sizeable majority of respondents (58%) indicated they would lose sales if government regulations prevented signs from being lit at any hour. For those who reported a sales loss, the average estimate was 21%. For the overall sample, including those businesses not reporting a loss, the average estimated loss of sales exceeded 10%.”

The Bottom Line

If non-illuminated signage is the only option available, it will, in fact, benefit the business and help increase foot traffic. The issue is will it befit your business enough to be profitable. As you can see from the numbers above, for most small businesses 10% – 20% decreases in sales can easily deplete a business’s entire profit margin. Our fast-paced society relies on convenience and ease of use for many of the purchasing decisions made. Restricting a sign’s illumination or duration of usage. Can cause the sign to go unnoticed resulting in a decrease, or loss of sales for the business.

Channel Letters & Branding

Good signage does far more than communicating a message or identify what makes up your brand. Channel letters are the perfect tool to demonstrate what customers can expect in a friendly and inviting manner.

Of course, signage has to be appropriately implemented. It should be clear and should easily distinguish your services. Regardless of the business, it has to attract the right target. Channel letters need to be attractive and appealing. They can be somber and serious, but shouldn’t be so much of either that you enhance chances of turning off your audience. Even a funeral home’s channel letters will need to be sufficiently appealing, attractive, and entertaining despite the nature of the business.

Upgrade your signage by getting incredible. Being seen is the first step of succeeding as a business or institution. Channel letters are the perfect solutions to make your brand known. These. steel channel letters offer you a modern way to express your message to the public and all people who see them.

The features loaded in these channel letters will tell you why they are the obvious choice for your advertising. Their brightness makes them easily noticeable and engaging, therefore, attracting people who might have otherwise passed your premises. The channel letters are highly versatile, such that you can put any type of message you wish. Being easily programmable, these channel letters produce brilliant adverts characterized by stunning images, and texts.

Customization

Channel letters can be designed to exactly match your logo, font, size, or color. This can be extremely important to your brand as you plan to maximize your identity across many channels. Ensure the public recognizes you whether it’s in a print ad, on a billboard, your Facebook page, Twitter account, or on the street.

An Eco-Friendly Solution

Thanks to the latest technology in signage, channel letters can be as expansive as you want and still be efficiently green. They can be installed quickly, saving on man-hours and energy usage. The use of LED lighting over conventional options like fluorescent and neon means less power. LED also does not use mercury or lead. And while these platforms can be highly illuminated, they are still a low voltage solution with advanced transformers that will still provide somewhere in the vicinity of 100,000 hours over their lifespan.

Building Financial Value

On the stock market, publicly-traded companies are valued at multiple times more than the entity’s actual hard assets. In many cases, this is the result of branding. Strong branding, like the use of channel letters, almost guarantees future business growth. Branding is a perception of value and will make everything from building capital to expansion and customer relationships easier to manage.

Without proper signage, you minimize potential recognition, financial value, and the possibility of attracting your audience. With it, your business implements an eco-friendly, cost-effective solution that will promote products and services for years to come. At the end of the business day, there is no greater marketing strategy than identifying yourself with channel letters.

Channel Letters Mounting Options

When it comes to mounting custom channel letter signs, there are three primary methods to go with. You can get custom channel letters on raceway, wireway, or mounted directly onto the wall. The difference is between simplicity and aesthetics.

Direct Mounting

With the direct mounting option, also called flush mounting, each letter is individually mounted to the wall surface. Flush mounting requires more holes as compared to other mounting options. This is done to give the sign a neat finish with no visible hardware other than the lighted channel letters themselves. In the case of back-illuminated custom channel letter signs, spacers are used to create a gap between the letters and the wall.

Raceway Mounting

Custom channel letters on raceway are another common type of mounting used both indoors and outdoors. The raceway is a thin rectangular box behind the sign where all the wires and electronic components are housed. As the LED channel letters are mounted over the raceway, the installation process consumes less labor time and requires fewer drilled holes. The raceway is usually painted with the same color as the wall to merge with the building’s surface and not be visible from afar.

Wireway Mounting

Similar to channel letters on the raceway, the wireway houses all the wires, power supply, and other electrical components. It’s generally oversized like a backdrop and becomes part of the custom channel letter signs design. It’s considered more aesthetically pleasing as it gives the letters a background and frame to stand against. Though the structure is more complicated than custom channel letters on raceway, it’s still simpler than direct mounting.

Special Constructions

The mounting options of LED channel letters have their pros and cons. You may need to check with your landlord and city council to know if there are any limitations and regulations you should follow. In any case, we provide fully customized constructions for channel letter signs to meet all of your requirements. Our professional team has the expertise and is fully equipped to create complex mounting constructions as permitted by law.

Channel Letters Styles

Apart from the illumination and mounting options, you should also determine whether you need a trim cap or trimless channel letters. This will depend on the placement and distance from which the passersby see the signage along with other factors.

Trimless Channel Letters

Trimless channel letters create a harmonious and exciting architectural display. They’re a more modern solution where no trim caps are used to attach the front surface of the letters to the sides. With trimless channel letters, the face and returns of the sign aren’t obscured by framing, allowing for the whole surface to be illuminated. This type of signage will give your venue a dazzling appearance with 24/7 visibility.

Trim Cap Channel Letters

A trim cap is a plastic molding that can often be seen on custom channel letter signs. The band is attached to the edges of the letters to connect the face to the sides. Trim caps provide a bold and prominent look to the sign by outlining the individual letters. Usually, the trim caps are painted the same color as the letters but you can choose different colors to give a unique look to your sign.

Advantages of Custom Channel Letters

  • 24/7 visibility even from afar
  • Custom designs, sizes, and lighting
  • Outdoor and indoor applications
  • 5+ year lifespan with proper care
  • Multiple mounting options

How Can Channel Letters Be Mounted?

There are a few different ways to mount your channel letter signs. Here, we will review the most popular mounting options so you can better understand how and why we do things.

Raceway Mount

Many property management companies and landlords generally require channel letter signs to be installed on a raceway, a metal box that houses all the electrical wiring and power supply for the individual letters themselves. This cuts down on the number of wall penetrations required to complete the installation, something landlords appreciate. Raceways are also typically painted to match the color of the building façade or sign band, ensuring that it blends with the architecture and brand guidelines.

Direct Mount

A direct mount flush or standoff mount. If appearance is the top priority, the direct mount is favored. Here, the letters are attached directly to the building façade using a pattern with non-corrosive fasteners. For reverse channel letters, a direct mount with standoff spacers is common. With direct mount channel letters, the power source and electrical wiring is housed behind the bulkhead wall or façade.

Backer Mount

The backer mount is similar to a raceway mount; but, instead of a metal box, the channel letters are attached to a metal cabinet or backer panel that is typically larger in height and width than the channel letter configuration. The power supply and wiring can either be housed inside the backer cabinet or behind the bulkhead wall or façade.

These 4 Simple Tips Will Help Make Your Next Signage Project Bring In More Customers and Make It Easier On The Wallet At The Same Time!

Keep your signage simple. We can’t be any more direct with this word of advice. Look around at all the big retailers or company names. Wal-Mart, Target, Home Depot, Taco Bell, McDonald’s, Lowes or, some of the smaller business signs in your neighborhood. Compare them, and make judgments on which type of sign is grabbing your attention. Be honest with yourself when you look at different types of signage. Is it the font or typestyle that draws your eye to read it? Is it the color of the letters in the company name? When it lights up at night, is it easy to read?

” Can you think of a Fortune 500 company that has an elaborate logo with lots of custom graphics? We already know the answer – it’s no! “

I’m sure when you start to look around at the signage in your area, you will notice that a majority of them are pretty simple – and that’s for a reason! Can you think of a Fortune 500 company that has an elaborate logo with lots of custom graphics? We already know the answer – it’s no! When it comes to signs it’s better to put your money towards Simpler, Bigger, and Brighter signage – not crazy graphics.

Big companies have huge marketing departments that spend a lot of time and money developing their best branding, and signage. Just follow their lead, and follow these 3 simple steps when deciding how your signage should look: 1. Is it Easy to Read? 2. Will your signage be: Easy to Remember 3. Does it Create Brand Awareness?

True Story: About 10 years ago we had a customer walk into our office and declare that he needed signage for his business. Great!

” Just the word: “DINO’S”… Hmmm, at that point, alarm bells went off in our heads…”

He was adamant that his name should be on the building. Just the word: DINO’S. Hmmm, at that point, alarm bells went off in our heads… Now if he was in the pizza business, we would have said: “no problem”. But we warned Dino that people might think he’s in the Pizza business if that’s the only sign letters we put up on the building. He said: “Nope! Everyone knows Dino’s!” that’s all the letters I need on the building! You’re just trying to get me to spend more money!”.

We certainly understood his concern to keep his costs down, but at the same time, we suggested that putting the words: Dino’s Salon would help people driving by knowing what your business is, especially new potential customers.

Well, he wouldn’t listen to us, and we put the letters on the building spelling out “DINO’S.”

“6 months later – who calls our office but Dino. He asks; “how much will it cost to put up the letters: “Salon”, next to Dino’s?”

6 months later – who calls our office but Dino. He asks; “how much will it cost to put up the letters: Salon, next to Dino’s.?” Unfortunately, a lot… When we put up DINO’S, it was central to his retail space, and the letters were wired for just those letters. Adding Salon, meant that we had to rewire all the letters, and rehang everything again. A lot more expensive than if we had done it right the first time. We never said; “we told you so” (even though we wanted to)

“Bigger cost more. Big letters and logos add a lot to your material cost, installation, and shipping.”

The next big roadblock to their “I want everything BIG!”, is the cost. Bigger costs are more. Big letters and logos add a lot to your material cost. Big letters and logos will cost more to install, and they will definitely cost more to ship and transport.

So.. Big Letters and logos can definitely bring more attention to your business, but we always try to find the best solution for our customers, that will match their dreams and budget.

True Fact: We can often tell if a customers business will fail or succeed by how prepared they are for their signage, just by them saying the following comments:

“ I want my sign to say: XYZ… blah blah blah, and I don’t have any idea what font or typestyle I should use or size of letters?”

“ I have no idea what size will work, you’re the sign expert you tell me.”

“ I kind of want my sign to look like this jpeg, and I don’t really have a design yet, hoping that maybe you can come up with some layout options”.

“ I need this by the end of the week, and I don’t have a budget in mind”.

” If your signage project falls into 3 out of the 4 categories listed above, then more than likely your whole business plan is just as unorganized. Not good.”

“How Do I Become The Expert For My Signage Project?” Try These Simple Tips

  1. Know what your landlord or city will allow for your location. Don’t ask the sign co. to find out, you should know this even before you sign a lease.
  2. Make sure your signage logo is a fully vectored art file. You will need this Logo file anyways if you want to order t-shirts, business cards, letterheads – and guess what? You need it for signage too! This will help the sign company come up with exactly what you’re wanting and can manipulate the file to fit your needs.
  3. Have realistic expectations of what your signage should look like.
  4. Most importantly: Give yourself at least 30 days to gather all your information, get your logo perfected, and have your signage made.

Notes On Purchasing LED Channel Letter Signs

Below are the different features or options available and circumstances involved when purchasing an outdoor LED sign for a business:

  • LED signs installed beside highways: It should not be a surprise that the bigger the sign, the bigger the price. This is due to the cost of materials. The more material used, the higher the price.
  • Number of Panels: Each LED sign consists of individual panels made up of LED bulbs, cooling fans, and wiring. These panels, housed in a surrounding cabinet and a variety of other components, usually have a fixed cost.
  • Pixel Pitch: The amount of LED bulbs per panel will be a determining factor in the pricing. The higher the pixel pitch (the more bulbs per panel), the higher the price will be.
  • Brand: Which brand are you buying? Watchfire, Samsung, Daktronics etc. There are many and they all offer different levels of quality.
  • Single or Double Sided: Again, determine your budget and needs. If you can get away with a one-sided LED sign, your price is going to be considerably lower. HOWEVER, if you need to capture traffic going both ways, you might want to shell out the extra bucks for a double-sided sign.
  • Sign Housing: An LED sign could be a lot less expensive if you are posting it on a pole or pylon. However, if you want a monument-style encasement for the LED sign, the cost is going to be much higher.
  • Sign Combination: By this, we are referring to an LED sign combined with carved, electric, or channel letters. That is almost like a sign within a sign. This too will add a higher cost to your sign.
  • Dealer/Installer: Consider the sign company’s ability to install and service the sign after the initial install. Are the techs factory trained? Does the sign dealer have the proper equipment to service the sign?
  • Manufacturer: Where is a product manufactured and assembled? Will parts be available after the initial sale? How long will it take to get them? How much downtime will there be?
  • Warranty: What is the type of warranty offered? Some sign companies have different options to consider before making your decision.

Municipality Regulations: Outdoor LED signage, often regulated by townships that have clear codes based on zoning and other factors, may determine the answer to many of the above features. Size, materials, light emittance and more will need to conform to your zoning ordinance.

Once we get a clearer picture of the exact needs, budget, and zoning ordinances of your particular location, we can create a clearer estimate of your LED sign. Below are a few compilations of the cost of LED Signs from the higher to a lower end:

  • Most Expensive LED Sign: 7’ tall x 11’ wide x 8mm (high definition) double sided: $92,000.00 or $1,900.00 per month for 60 months
  • Middle of the Road LED Sign: 5’ tall x 10’ wide x 16mm double sided: $31,430.00 or $690.00 per month for 60 months.
  • Least Expensive LED Sign: 4’ tall x 8’ wide x 16mm single-sided wall mount: $18,500.00 or $400.00 per month for 60 months

At the same time, consult your lease for sign criteria and limitations, double-check with the property manager, and call up your local zoning board secretary to ask about zoning ordinances and classification—make sure your plans fit within municipal plans and requirements. For example, if your business is zoned as a historic district, you may be limited with what type of modern channel letter sign you hoped for and you may need to go before the zoning board for a variance.

Finally, we highly recommend thinking long term. Don’t cut corners. Remember that a good sign will have a higher cost upfront, but minimal costs down the road. It’s definitely cheaper to buy a good sign once than multiple cheaper signs that need frequent replacement and upkeep. Don’t use low-quality LEDs which are unreliable and produce a lackluster effect with its unimpressive, dim lighting. Don’t skim on cheaper trim caps that will crack in time or low-quality acrylic faces, which will fade quickly—all tarnishing your brand. It’s always less expensive to maintain a well-made sign, and it is more visually attractive and impressive, ta-boot!

    Channel Letters FAQ

Why Your Business Needs Channel Letters?

Channel letters are custom-made signage – frequently illuminated and three-dimensional – placed outside public and commercial buildings. You can find them displayed on almost any corporation or franchise, making these organizations easily identifiable not only to regular customers and clients but to new ones looking for a particular service.

Why Choose Channel Letters Over Other Sign Types?

Channel letters are defined as three-dimensional signs or letters fabricated from aluminum, acrylic, and LED or Neon lighting. These signs are commonly used on building exteriors, particularly in malls, strip malls, on large buildings. Many malls also have channel letter signs inside the building for each store. This type of sign offers great visibility as the letters are often 12″ or taller per letter and internally illuminated which increases night visibility.

It is easy to make a very large sign out of channel letters as each letter is generally an individual unit. For example, these channel letters used on the new Converse headquarters in Boston are several feet tall and illuminate from within make a real statement for the new headquarters.

As shown by this example, it is also easy to replicate many logos using channel letters. Using a combination of lighting color, face color, shape, and sometimes full-color graphics, you can easily create illuminated signs with channel letters.

    How are Channel Letters Fabricated?

    Channel letters consist of the following parts;

Face: For a standard or front-lit channel letter, the face is made using 3/16” thick colorfast acrylic sheeting that is typically cut to shape using a CNC or Multicam router. The acrylic sheeting is available in a variety of color options and can be customized to a wider spectrum of available colors through the use of high-quality translucent vinyl or perforated vinyl from leading manufacturers including 3M, Avery, and Oracal. The acrylic face of a channel letter is attached to the channel letter “can” through the use of “trim cap”.

Trim Cap: The mechanism for attaching the acrylic channel letter face to the body of the channel letter is UV-stable, earth-friendly, highly durable plastic that is extruded around aluminum foil. The trim cap attaches to the acrylic channel letter face using a liquid bonding agent that “welds” the trim cap to the channel letter face. The face is then ready to be attached to the body of the channel letter.

Return: The side of a channel letter is known as the “return”. For the standard of front-lit channel letters, the depth of the return is typically 3”, 5”, or 8”, and maybe specified either in the Sign Criteria of your Lease Agreement or in local city/county ordinances. Returns are shaped to form the appropriate character by the use of computer-driven bending machines. The aluminum sheeting used in the manufacture of channel letters is also available in a variety of standard colors or can be custom-painted with your choice of PMS or other color-match shades.

Backs: The back of a channel letter is made using router-cut aluminum sheeting, which is available in a variety of thicknesses, including .040, .063, and .090.

Light Source: Channel letters are made both as an illuminated sign option and as a non-illuminated sign option. Today, nearly all internally-illuminated channel letters are made using LED illumination, resulting in significant energy cost savings over neon illumination options commonly used in the past.

What are the Watch-Outs For Custom Channel Letter Signs?

    • 1. Before spending any time considering the various types of storefront or business sign options, check what is required – – either in your lease, in a local zoning classification such as an area labeled as a historical zone, or in the local sign ordinance. Consult with the property owner/manager, and read the Sign Criteria in your lease agreement thoroughly!
    • 2. Think long-term… Purchase the best sign you can afford. Signs aren’t like print media or direct mail. With a sign, you have a higher up-front cost, but a relatively low cost once the sign has been installed (electrical and maintenance). A $3,500 channel letter sign costs less than $10 per day in advertising. Divide the cost of your sign by the number of days in your lease.
    • 3. It’s less expensive to buy a sign once. In other words, purchase a sign that you will be happy with next year, and three years down the road. Are you sure bright pink is the way you want to go?
    • 4. Don’t cut corners. Using low-quality LEDs means your sign won’t be as bright today and will be even dimmer tomorrow. Using a low-quality trim cap means the trim cap will crack, and the appearance of the face of your sign will deteriorate. Using low-quality acrylic that isn’t Colorfast means the red, blue, green, yellow, purple, or orange face of your channel letter sign will fade sooner than it should.
    • 5. Check before you order… Will your sign be UL approved? In many cases, your lease will require all signage to be UL-approved. Confirm all colors, including the raceway color, if applicable.
    • 6. Sweat the details. Don’t just compare prices. Compare the thickness of the acrylic used for the face, the thickness of the metal used for the returns. What’s the warranty on the power supply, and what is the hour life of the LED? Remember, it’s less expensive to maintain a quality, well-made sign!

    How Important Is Attractive Signage?

The perceived professionalism of a business often hinges on the quality of the signage product used. A well-designed piece of signage draws attention to the company and instantly connects the viewer with the company. If the business signage is professionally designed, the potential customer is more likely to recognize the brand and form an association between the company and its location with subsequent interactions. The business that needs to stand out cannot afford to have lackluster signage. Channel letters used in signage to present a polished, professional image for a business.

What is The Manufacturing or Lead Time For Your Channel Letters Signs?

We have some of the fastest manufacturing times in the industry and in most cases, our Lighted Letters and Lighted Logo Signs take about 3 – 7 Working Days to manufacture depending on the style and material used.

What Are Reverse Channel Letters Signs?

A Reverse channel letter sign illuminates the letters from behind the letters, also known as halo-illuminated. Flat letter designs often lack depth, so some prefer the use of channel letters. Reverse channel letters custom-made, three-dimensional signage used for businesses. Suitable for internal and external placement, the versatile signs can be suited for any type of business. The signs are illuminated for recognition and are one of the single most effective branding tools a company can have for a business.

What's the Difference Between Halo Lit Signs & Channel Letter Signs?

Actually, they are BOTH considered channel letters. There are four types of channel letters: Front lit channel letters, reverse lit channel letters, front and back lit channel letters, and open face lit channel letters.

Standard Front Lit Channel Letter – The dimensional letter is aluminum on the back and sides (returns) with internal illumination of either LED’s or neon. The sign face is polycarbonate with plastic trim caps or metal retainers bolted to hold on to the sign face. It is called a “front light channel letter” because the front face is lit up.

Halo Lit/Reverse Channel Letter – Halo Lit Letters or also known as Reverse Channel Lit Letters consist of aluminum faces and sides (returns) mounted onto standoffs away from the wall which project either LED’s or neon Illumination to the wall surface giving the sign a halo effect. This technique is often considered to give the customer a distinguished or unique image.

Front & Back Lit Channel Letter – This letter combines the Standard Front lit letter along with the Reverse/Halo Lit Letter. The sides of the letter are aluminum, the faces are polycarbonate and the back of the sign is open to reflect the LED or neon illumination off of the wall.

Open Lit Channel Letter – As with the standard front lit channel letter, the dimensional letter is aluminum on the back and sides (returns). This sign is typically illuminated with neon. The only difference from the standard front lit channel letter is that the sign face is either clear or this sign does not have a sign face at all so that the internally exposed neon can be viewed.

How Reverse Channel Letters Make Signs More Effective?

    • Builds brand trust
    • Make a location really stand out, easy to get to
    • Forms an immediate, favorable impression of the business
    • Polished finishes help signage maintain a crisp appearance

    What Are The Mounting Options?

There are a handful of mounting options that anyone considering a channel letter sign needs to be aware of.

Raceway Mount: Many property management companies and landlords will require that any channel letter signs be installed on a raceway, which is a metal “box” that houses the electrical wiring and power supply for the individual letters themselves. The advantage to a raceway mount is that it reduces the number of wall penetrations that are required to complete the installation – – something most landlords appreciate. Raceways are typically painted to match the color of the building’s façade or sign band.

Direct Mount or Flush Mount: If appearance is key, then chances are you’ll favor a direct mount installation. With a direct mount, the letters are attached directly to the building façade using a pattern, with non-corrosive fasteners. For reverse channel letters, direct mount with standoff spacers is the common option. With direct mount or flush mount channel letters, the power source and electrical wiring connecting one letter to another are housed behind the bulkhead wall or façade.

Backer Mount: Similar to raceway mount, except that instead of a metal box, the channel letters are attached to a metal cabinet or backer panel that is typically larger in height and width than the channel letter configuration. The power supply and wiring can either be housed inside the backer “cabinet” or behind the bulkhead wall or façade.

How Are Channel Letter Signs Priced?

Every channel letter sign we sell is considered a custom sign due to a large number of variables in the makeup of the sign, from letter height, stroke thickness, font, return depth, return thickness, return color, back thickness, type of mounting, face color, trim cap color, trim cap thickness, and so on. Our process is to quote each approved design on its own, based on the options chosen.

    Are Channel Letters For You?

Channel letters are the first and best way to display your brand and information. Without a clean, prominent display, you minimize the public’s opportunity to recognize you. Your signage creates immediate trust. Imagine a client or customer being in unfamiliar surroundings, seeing your brand, and walking in confidently. Channel letters are a one-time investment in advertising that works 24/7/365.

    What Is A Backlit Sign?

Backlit display graphics are any type of print that’s designed to be viewed with a light source behind it. Backlit signs are a great way to: increase visibility, stand out from competitive signs & have your message seen, night or day.

What Is The Difference Between Cast Metal and Flat Cut Letters?

The cast metal letters are produced in a foundry that melts aluminum, brass or bronze then pours into a mold where it is cast. The flat cut-out metal letters are cut out from a sheet of solid metal by a computer-driven water jet. The sheet is available in different thicknesses. Cast metal letters offer three-dimensional depth but are only available in select font styles and sizes. Flat cut-out metal letters can be cut in any font style and used for logos and graphics. Both styles came in a wide range of colors and finishes.

What Is Better, Plastic Building Letters or Metal Building Letters?

Metal letters provide a strong, permanent image but are more expensive. Plastic dimensional letters have a smooth shiny surface and are less expensive. Metal letters are heavier, more durable, and have a rich texture. Plastic letters are lightweight, economical, and are quicker to produce.

How Much Does It Cost For A Storefront Sign?

Urethane business signs cost about $7.50 per sq ft with average prices ranging from $5 to $10 per sq ft. Aluminum business signs cost about $15 per sq ft with average prices ranging from $10 to $20 per sq ft. Plastic business signs cost about $15 per sq ft with average prices ranging from $10 to $20 per sq ft.

What are the Watch-Outs For Ordering Channel Letters Signs?

What’s the warranty on the power supply, and what is the hour life of the LED? Remember, it’s less expensive to maintain a quality, well-made sign!

What Types of Channel Letter Signs Are Available?

Front-Lit Channel Letters: The first and most common type of channel letter is the front-lit or standard channel letter. A front-lit channel letter will have an acrylic face, trim cap, aluminum returns, and aluminum back. Again, the number of options is large – – these signs can be customized in a variety of ways!

Reverse Channel Letters/Back-lit Channel Letters/Halo Channel Letters: For a unique and classy look, consider reverse channel letters! Instead of an acrylic face, reverse channel letters utilize .090 metal faces and .063 aluminum returns and have clear 1/8” or 3/16” Lexan or poly-carbonate backs. The return of a reverse channel letter is typically smaller, usually about 3.5”. These letters are mounted with a 1.5” standoff so that – – when illuminated – – there is a “halo effect” surrounding the shape of each individual character.

Combination-Lit or Front/Back Lit Channel Letters: Ever thought about doing a sign that has red illuminated faces, and a blue halo effect? Well, then a combination-lit channel letter is for you! These signs use 3/16” acrylic for their faces, mounted with trim cap to the aluminum returns (usually about 5”). Like the reverse channel letter, combination-lit channel letters use clear Lexan backs that have been customized using translucent vinyl graphics to create the desired halo color.

How Much Does An Outdoor LED Business Sign Cost?

Installation of huge LED Signboard outside retail most of our first-time customers call us thinking they are cutting to the chase by asking flat out, “How much does an outdoor LED business sign cost?”

Normally LED signs start around $100 to $5,000. However, custom signs could be more.

Our sales reps always struggle to answer this question, as there are so many variables involved. While we get the desire to have a flat-out price range, it is almost impossible to give a clear quote without asking a few questions of our own.

More than likely, they are gathering a bunch of different quotes to compare. Here is why that is a bad strategy. For one, the purpose, location, and budget determine a lot of the functionality you will need.

Think of it as if you are about to purchase a new television. Do you want the latest electric signboard model, what size, which manufacturer, what features, etc?

The price of each outdoor LED sign will depend on which features you are looking for, as well as, how much customization needed.

What Is The Difference Between Plastic Building Letters and Acrylic Building Letters?

The plastic building letters are a 3D letter that is vacuum-formed around molds. The acrylic letters are cut out from a sheet of solid acrylic by a computer-driven laser. Formed plastic building letters are economical, three-dimensional depth, and fast turnaround. But formed plastic letters are only available in select font styles and sizes. Flat cut-out acrylic sign letters can be cut in any font style and used for logos and graphics.

What Are Channel Letters Made Of?

Channel letters are made of plastic or metal and used as exterior signage on commercial or public buildings. They are often lit internally. Unlit 3D letters are also applied to panels and called dimensional letters. A channel letter is any number, letter, or character used in the sign.

What Is A Channel Letter Sign?

A channel letter sign is a three-dimensional graphic element with an individual structure and separate illumination. In simpler terms, a channel letter can be any letter, number, or another character that, when combined with other like characters, makes up a sign presentation. Each letter is made using aluminum sheeting, and acrylic. Channel letter signs are highly flexible and can be made using a wide variety of fonts, colors, and sizes.

What Are The Benefits of Fabricated Metal Letters?

Strength, texture, image, and durability. Each Weld-On Metal Letters is precision cast in aluminum, stainless steel, or galvanized sheet, using up to twenty distinct manufacturing steps. The metal provides depth and permanence to your image. Metal finishes give you the choice of dazzling shine, brilliant color, or natural and antiquated metal. Combine these finishes with an extensive selection of letter styles to design signs that reflect your individual image.

The biggest difference from the cut metal sign is that cast metal letters have more depth than a flat cut-out metal letter. Cast metal letters are hollow in the back so you’re not paying for all the material that won’t be seen anyway.

Easy Installation of Metal Sign Letters

You can install our cut Custom 3D Metal Signs on virtually any wall surface including interior office drywall, exterior brick, stone, metal siding, and stucco – using the included stud mounts that thread into the back of the letters. For a drop shadow effect, use spacers (also included) which will make your letters float off the wall. All of our cut metal letters come with a paper installation template that shows you where to drill holes. Find the full installation instructions here.

How To Install Building Sign Letters?

Outdoor building letters are typically glued with stud mount hardware. Thoroughly clean the application area of all dirt, tar, and wax. Mark the pattern with a ruled line along the top of letters and down its center. An accurate, computer-generated pattern printed on 60 lb white grid paper that shows the outline of each character, the spacing between letters and hand punched hole locations of each stud showing where to drill. Once taped to the wall, holes are then drilled and filled with adhesive.
